Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa, Central Tigray, was looted and completely destroyed by Eritrean forces during the genocidal war on Tigray. Ethiopian government soldiers are seen vandalizing Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa. Before its destruction, the factory employed more than 6,000 people and supported over 30,000 dependents.

Almost a year after Almeda Textile Factory was looted and destroyed by Eritrean forces, what remained of the factory was bombed by the Ethiopian Air Force on 24 November 2021. The strike further devastated the site and has been described as an attempt to obscure responsibility for the factory’s earlier destruction. During a military display in Addis Ababa marking an award ceremony for officers involved in carrying out the Tigray genocide, Ethiopia announced that its air force had completely destroyed Mesfin Industrial Engineering in Mekelle and the Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa.

The Su-27 [fighter aircraft ] are the ones that have flown all the way to Mekelle and completely destroyed Mesfin Industrial Engineering complex where the Junta forces were repairing their heavy machinery and supporting equipment. They are also the ones that have flown all the way to Adwa and destroyed Almeda Textiles and Garment Factory where the Junta forces were manufacturing uniforms for their soldiers.

Ethiopia announced the destruction of Mesfin Industrial Engineering in Mekelle and the Almeda Textile Factory in Adwa by its air force.

Huge plumes of smoke rise over Almeda after Ethiopian fighter jets bombed what remained of Almeda Textile Factory, nearly a year after Eritrean forces looted and destroyed it.
