Addis Pharmaceutical Factory (APF) was established in 1992 with an initial investment of 200 million Ethiopian birr and employed 1,200 people before the genocidal war on Tigray. Located in the city of Adigrat, Tigray, it is the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Ethiopia. The factory utilized state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and equipment. According to the company’s profile on Ezega Business Guide, the factory produced safe, effective, and quality medicines and had an annual production capacity of 1.2 billion tablets, 19 million ampoules, 10 million vials, 500,000 capsules, 4 million ointment tubes, and 9.6 million bottles of syrup.
